Simple pleasures

Life is pretty hard work and sometimes we forget that the simple pleasures in life are the ones that mean the most.

Most kids haven't had to learn that lesson (and rightly so) and Finn here fully embraces the concept of simple pleasures.

After a 2 hour walk he embraces, and I mean embraces, his hot chocolate and fully immerses himself in its pleasure.

Next time the world seems too much reach for the hot chocolate.

3 times a lady

A big thank you to the parent of this little lady who was happy for me to capture her little girls joy as she ran through the series of mini fountains near London Bridge.

Taking pictures of other peoples kids is a bit of a minefield.  Kids are great subjects but parents (rightly or wrongly) often assume the worst about a guy with a camera.  So it was really nice to meet someone who clearly hasn't succumbed to the paranoia and simply asked for a copy of the shots.

So thank you to the lady in the shot and the lady who is her mum.

Posers

Luckily for me my nephew and niece here have grown up with me and my camera and so asking them to pose is no big deal.

I wanted to capture an image of them to close Xmas with.  I've been photographing them for a few years now and wanted to mark the end of 2011 with an image of them as they are both growing up fast.

Taking kids photographs has its challenges but this shoot could not have been easier.

Happy Xmas.

Fight the Power

Little Annabel here is a fighter - just look at the fist she makes at 6 weeks old.

Apparently she is fighting sleep, her parents and everything the world throws at her.  Knowing her parents I can't imagine where she gets that from ;-)

Is the world ready for Annabel I wonder?

Heads, shoulders, knees and toes

If there is one thing that reminds us how small we were as babies it's our hands and feet - were they ever that tiny?  Yes they were.

That is probably why they make such good subjects for baby photography - the contrast between their size and delicate nature and what they will become.

I find a good trick is to use the size of the parents hands to put the size of their baby's feet or hands into context.

So parents beware - make sure you have a manicure before a baby portrait or your child may hold it against you in the future.
