Centre stage

You are clever people - you can tell this isn't really a stage but actually the ground floor (we suspect the canteen) of an old derelict building in Chelmsford, Essex.

Featuring the talented artist and model Liz Sterry the fashion photography shoot turned into a race against the clock but a very enjoyable one.  Sometimes the pressure of a limited time portrait photoshoot forces you to think and act much more quickly than you would normally do and so different ideas are created.

The fighter pilot helmet had been around for a while but this was the first shoot where it really seemed to fit in.

The building has now had its final curtain call and has been demolished.

Ring of fire

Today I was shooting with my pals from The Essex Strobist Group at an all day studio event courtesy of Dieslepunk Studios.

I was also testing out a new bit of lighting kit - a ringflash which is a very popular fashion lighting tool and one I hope to add to my portrait and wedding work.

So a quick shot from the day with many more to process and post over the next few weeks.  Thanks to the model in the shot Samantha.

Not a bad way to spend a Sunday.

Pulling your hair out

I've so many great shots (a lack of modesty here - please forgive me) that choosing which ones to feature has me pulling my hair out.

With that thought in mind this shot was an obvious one.  Lots of attitude, lots of shapes and a whole lot of pink hair (the wig returns).

Now back to the difficult choice of the next portrait photograph to feature. Tough life.

Artificial colourings

If you've read my previous blog post you'll have picked up on how colour can affect your mood - here is another great example from shooting a fashion portrait session with Liz

The moment this wig came out of the bag we were both smiling and our energy levels jumped up.  It was almost impossible to stop smiling as the colours in this wig were so fantastic and hyper real.

With so much energy the only thing to do was to ask Liz to shake her head up and down and side to side.  It took a few shots for the perfect moment to arrive.

I've changed my mind - I like artificial colourings ;-)

Shhhhhhhhhh!

Liz called this one 'the librarian' - the glasses adding a certain authority to her character during our fashion portrait photoshoot this weekend.

I call it one of the most powerful portraits I think I have ever taken.

Maybe I just work well with authority figures?
