A work in progress

I had a lovely family holiday in the Forest of Dean recently and had planned to update the pictures of my nephew, Aaron, during the week.  I'd taken one speedlight and a softbox so it was also a chance for me to go back to basics with my lighting.

Young master Aaron is into his 13th year (not yet 13) and is on the cusp on becoming a teenager and moving from being a boy into becoming a man.

It's a fascinating time from an uncles point of view (parents I suspect may have a different view) as Aaron demonstrates a growing awareness of the world around him, his own points of view on a range of complex issues.  Yet he retains a lot of the innocence of childhood.  Tough time kid.

For this portrait Aaron demonstrated he has really started to develop his own look - his poses have gone from being over dramatic to more considered, individual actions.  I think his growing self awareness is responsible for that transition.

Here's to the next few years.

Christmas Jester

A lovely start to the xmas period with a visit to family and my ever photogenic and entertaining niece Jess.

Was it the xmas lunch, the chocolate cakes or the individual chocolates she snaffled (who knows?) but I felt I lost control of these images after the first one was taken.

But then again control is never a word normally associated with Jess ;-)

I hope you have a lovely Xmas.

We all scream for ice cream

A young boy and an ice cream? The results were inevitable.

Well done George for keeping the traditions alive.

Daddy knows best

John is the father of four boys under 10 and is a top flight lawyer.  I'll let that sink in.

His boys are clearly his life and his pride in them and their achievements is quite lovely to observe.  They can catch and throw a ball better than most people I know and are destined for a career in cricket or baseball somehow, I can feel it.

So despite a ball coming at them (from john) at 100 miles an hour they are totally cool and happy to play catch and return.

Balance

My recent NCT photoshoot was a balanced affair with 7 of the 8 babies being young gents, 1 young lady, 7 mums and one dad.

Richard didn't appeared phased by the situation in the slightest and he must have communicated that through to Samuel who was super chilled through the whole portrait shoot.

Luckily my attendance helped maintain the balance.
