Think bike!

I love to shot people - they are my favourite subject by far but it is a good idea to vary your photography if you want to remain creative.

I spotted this location when I was on a ride last week and decided to combine a great location with an opportunity to shoot something different to my normal portraits.

I wanted to create an image useable in a mountain bike ad - with the idea of taking a mountain bike and putting it in a very concrete environment.  I used my Lencarta lightning gear to pick out the bike from the front and to light it from the rear and they worked beautifully.  In hindsight I might have bought a third light to help pick out the saddle but that's for another time.

Saddle up ;-)

Guest post

During a wedding the focus is primarily on the bride and groom but for the bride and groom I always notice how much they are thinking about everyone else.  So for this blog post I thought I would choose some of the images of the guests.

I was lucky enough to be chosen as the wedding photographer for Sarah and Steve's wedding in Essex recently on recommendation from a friend.  The wedding was in a small chapel in a private school and it was a lovely venue.

So let's take a look at some of the guests.

A round of applause for the wedding guests I think.

Centre stage

You are clever people - you can tell this isn't really a stage but actually the ground floor (we suspect the canteen) of an old derelict building in Chelmsford, Essex.

Featuring the talented artist and model Liz Sterry the fashion photography shoot turned into a race against the clock but a very enjoyable one.  Sometimes the pressure of a limited time portrait photoshoot forces you to think and act much more quickly than you would normally do and so different ideas are created.

The fighter pilot helmet had been around for a while but this was the first shoot where it really seemed to fit in.

The building has now had its final curtain call and has been demolished.

Beauty and the beast

A good friend of mine is Alison 'Blades of Payne' a member of the Killahurtz Roller Derby team and it was Alison who organised for me to take the official portraits of each member of the team (she's the beauty).

The portrait shoot also involved some of the male members of the team who support the skaters and I introduce Wildabeast Nolan.  A non skating official he (and a few others yet to be revealed) are a vital part of the team.

Go and check them all out on their website.

Blades of Payne

I've had the pleasure of working with Alison a few times now and it was her recommendation that ended with me shooting portraits of the Killa Hurtz Roller Derby team.

So it seemed only fair that Alison was the first formal portrait of the session and, as always, she rocked the shoot with a great splash of attitude and style.

There is a lot more to Alison than meets the eye - she is also a talented jewellery artist and you can find her stuff at Sacrifice Jewellery.

Just like Alison her jewellery is just that little bit different ;-)
